Garowe (HOL) - Puntland Regional State President Said Abdullahi Deni convened a meeting with various political organizations in Garowe on Saturday, aiming to address the upcoming regional elections.
President Deni, along with representatives from SINCAD, IFIYE, RUNCAD, MUSTAQBAL, KAAH, and SHAQALAHA political organizations, discussed strategies to expedite the completion of one-person, one-vote elections for the House of Representatives, the Presidency, and the remaining three districts of the Local Council Elections in the Nugal Region – specifically Garowe, Dangoroyo, and Godobjiran.
During a press conference following the meeting, President Said Deni reiterated his administration's readiness to dialogue with the opposition groups to resolve the political impasse surrounding the elections.
Recently, a parliamentary session focused on the controversial Election Amendment Act ended in disarray as members clashed over its implementation.
The primary point of contention centred around the proposed electoral reform law introduced by the Puntland Electoral Commission. The Special Committee of the Assembly, responsible for the Elections Act, identified inconsistencies within Articles 44, 56, and 81 of the Puntland State Constitution. Despite the committee's recommendation to postpone the law's passage for security stability, the Speaker rejected it, emphasizing the importance of maintaining security stability.
