Mogadishu (HOL) - President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre presided over the weekly cabinet meeting on Thursday, which reviewed the implementation of government agencies' action plans in 2023.
President Mohamud commended the Cabinet for adopting an annual plan in line with the national goal of progress, freedom, and rebuilding the National Army, emphasizing that 2023 is the year of re-liberation and rebuilding government institutions.
The President has directed the Cabinet to ensure that government services are delivered to regions recently liberated from the al-Shabab while ensuring that the quality of initiatives undertaken has long-term value to the Somali people.
The Somali Cabinet passed two significant draft legislations at its weekly meeting. The National Intelligence and Security Institution Act and the National Identification and Registration Act.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (draft) Act was one of the bills discussed Wednesday during a meeting on the security situation and the arms embargo on Somalia.
Top security officials, including the intelligence chief Mahad Mohamed Salad, and military and police commanders attended the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Barre.
The two draft acts will be submitted to the parliament for approval in the coming days.
