Hargeisa (HOL) - Mustafa Mohamed Martin, a political commentator and former staunch opponent of the current Somaliland administration was arrested in Hargeisa on Wednesday.
According to sources, Martin, a US resident, was arrested by Somaliland authorities after arriving in the breakaway capital earlier this week with his wife.
Musicians and other prominent Somaliland personalities reportedly greeted him at the Egal International Airport.
Neither the police nor his family have yet to comment on the motive for Martin's detention.
Martin had previously supported the Wadani party and was one of the leading voices to challenge the Bihi's presidential election victory.
His frustration with Somaliland's electoral system led him to declare himself as the President of the United Somali Front, a group he founded as a "government in exile." He travelled to Mogadishu and Garowe to rally support for his group.
Following rapprochement with senior Somaliland officials, Martin abandoned his mission and walked back some of his incendiary comments about Somaliland's leaders.
