Wednesday July 12, 2023

Mogadishu (HOL)  — The Halane Base Camp near Mogadishu's international airport welcomed a new addition to its gastronomic landscape on Saturday, the Java Coffee Garden.

The latest addition to the city's rapidly evolving hospitality sector is tucked away in the Halane Base Camp, a secure green zone close to Mogadishu's main international airport. This is the second branch of the popular eatery Java Coffee Garden, with the first location being a beloved fixture in the Taleex neighbourhood.

The grand opening took place between 12 PM and 3 PM and featured Federal Petroleum Minister Abdirizak Omar cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the restaurant. Several government MPs and foreign dignitaries were also in attendance, highlighting the significance of this event.

Located on Deeqa Road, behind RA International at Alpha Camp, the new Java Coffee Garden aims to be a space of leisure and hospitality for both local and international residents of the airport area. The diverse clientele will have the opportunity to indulge in the restaurant's vibrant menu, enjoying high-quality coffee and a variety of culinary delights.

In an interview with Hiiraan Online, the manager of the new Java Coffee Garden, Jennifer, spoke about her aspirations for the restaurant and its role in the community.

"We have high aspirations for this new location and its future," said Jennifer. "Our primary goal is to create a welcoming and convenient space for both local and international residents coming into the main international airport area and the Green Zone."

"In keeping with our mission, we are keen on promoting the diaspora community's initiative to reinvest and integrate back into Somalia," Jennifer continued. "We're happy to actively participate in the nation's rebuilding and development efforts, and committed to providing international standards in our services to ensure this vision is fully realized."

The restaurant's carefully crafted menu showcases the rich culinary heritage of the region through local and international recipes. Collaborations with local suppliers and farmers aim to promote sustainability and support the local economy, contributing to the growth of Mogadishu's agricultural sector.

Job creation for local communities is also a critical aspect of Java Coffee Garden's impact on the city. The management team plans to invest in talent from within Mogadishu and surrounding areas, providing comprehensive training and professional development for its team members.

Patrons of the Java Coffee Garden can anticipate an enticing menu that covers an array of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, boasting dishes such as the Java Signature Pancake for breakfast, Traditional Fish Curry for lunch, and Grilled Lamb Chops for dinner. Their pastry offerings include beef and chicken samosas, while pizza lovers can enjoy a range of options from Margarita to BBQ Chicken. For those wanting a healthier option, Java Coffee Garden provides an assortment of salads and soups. To quench their thirst, guests can choose from hot and cold drinks, including frappes, smoothies, mojitos, and the ever-popular cappuccino.

The establishment of Java Coffee Garden in the Mogadishu International Airport Green Zone not only serves as an indicator of the city's growing food and hospitality sector but also a testament to the city's progress and potential.
