Mogadishu (HOL) - Unidentified gunmen killed Faqay Abdulle Mayow, the former deputy commissioner of administration and finance for the Awdhegle district in the Lower Shabelle region, in the Hamarjab district of Mogadishu on Wednesday.
Following the incident, federal government troops arrived at the scene, but the assailants had already managed to escape. No arrests were made, and no group claimed responsibility for the killing.
The killing of Mayow comes just days after Abdi Ahmed Yusuf (Afar Sheegle), the former deputy governor of Security and Politics for the Lower Shebella region, was killed in a suicide bombing at an officers' camp near Somalia's Ministry of Defense in Mogadishu.
The perpetrator, who allegedly concealed explosives in his jacket, detonated the device within a densely populated camp area, resulting in the deaths and injuries of numerous officers, soldiers, and civilians. Among the confirmed fatalities are Yusuf and an officer only known by the nickname 'Qaanso.'
