Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali National Army conducted a major operation on the border between the Middle Shabelle and Galgadud regions, killing at least 100 al-Shabab militants on Friday.
According to Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia, the operation targeted members of the Al-Shabaab group who had been regrouping in the area to plan attacks against both troops and civilians.
During the operation, the army neutralized the militants and destroyed their weaponry, burned seven vehicles, and demolished their base, as stated by the Ministry.
"Today, the armed forces targeted the hiding places of the Khawarij enemy and killed more than 100 fighters. They also burned about seven vehicles. The attack took place while they were searching for cattle stolen from people in the forest," the Deputy Minister of Information remarked,
The Deputy Minister also highlighted that numerous al-Shabaab fighters were also killed in recent operations in the Bay and Jubba regions, and he asserted that the efforts to combat Al-Shabaab will persist.
Earlier this week, the Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local militia forces, killed more than 60 al-Shabaab militants in a security operation in the El-Dhun Agow area of the Bay region, according to the Ministry.
