ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held meetings over “shared mutual interests and concerns” with respective leaders of Kenya and Somalia.

The meetings took place on Monday morning on the sidelines of the 14th Ordinary Session of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government being held in Djiboutian capital.

Abiy and his delegation left Addis Ababa for Djibouti City to participate in the IGAD Summit on Monday morning.

Ahead of the summit, the PM said he met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and President William Ruto of Kenya.

“Given our many shared mutual interests and concerns, Ethiopia will continue working closely with each country in overcoming our common challenges,” he said in a tweet.

Leaders of the IGAD member states have convened in Djibouti in a bid to tackle a host of “issues critical to the region’s peace, security, and development,” said the bloc in a statement.

The summit is expected to produce a joint communiqué outlining the outcomes of the discussions and the way forward for the region.

The Assembly is the supreme policy making organ of the Authority. It determines the objectives, guidelines and programs for the Secretariat.
