Hargeisa (HOL) - Several local councils and parliament members, elected from the eastern Hargeysa, western Burco, and Eerigabo districts, have accused President Bihi of undermining the unity of the community.
The lawmaker's accusation stems from a recent announcement by a group of elders from the Garhajis community that they had formed a new committee, despite the existence of an established committee.
The lawmakers have accused the president of being behind the formation of the new committee. Lawmaker Said Sokeeye stated that those who seek to dismantle the Garhajis community would not succeed in their intentions.
The formation of the new committee followed the refusal of the previous Garhajis committee to participate in peace efforts by some of Somaliland's leaders to end the conflict in Las Anod town. The previous committee is also opposed to the president.
The lawmakers added that the president had received poor advice in the Las Anod conflict, and it is imperative that the nation remains united and resolves the conflict in a united manner.
In February, the Garhajis community condemned the violence in Las Anod, which killed over two hundred people and displaced close to 200,000. More casualties are expected as the fighting continues.
