Sudanese army claims heavy casualties from paramilitary forces

Thursday May 18, 2023

Khartoum, May 17 (Prensa Latina) Sudanese government troops today attacked several units of the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and reported heavy casualties of paramilitary troops and vehicles.

According to local sources, north of Bahri, the military ambushed the RSF, destroyed armored vehicles and annihilated several snipers on the buildings’ roofs.

Also, in a communiqué, the army accused the paramilitaries of assaulting the headquarters of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, South Sudan and Somali embassies.

Meanwhile, the RSF denounced the military commanders for involving police forces in the fighting on their behalf and warned that it would respond to any action by these troops.

The head of the army and the Sovereign Transitional Council (STC), General Abdelfatah al Burhan, recently replaced the acting interior minister and police chief, Anan Hamed Omar, for not returning to the country when the conflict began.

Both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the truce agreed last Friday 12 in the Saudi city of Jeddah, with international mediation, a pact in which they committed to create humanitarian corridors to evacuate foreigners and civilians, as well as to respect hospitals and other Red Cross centers.
