Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister, Salah Ahmed Jamac, along with Minister of Education, Farah Sheikh Abdukhadir, inaugurated the 2022/23 National Examination for secondary school students in Mogadishu on Saturday.
34,000 Somali students from the Banaadir region and federal member states (excluding Puntland and Somaliland) took the first paper on Saturday morning under the supervision of regional education ministers.
The Ministry of Education of Somalia has established 114 exam centers in the South West, Jubbaland, Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and Banadir regions, with security responsibilities entrusted to the Somali Police Force.
The Ministry has postponed the examination for students residing in Beledweyne due to the flooding caused by the Shabelle River in Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiiraan region.
The flooding has submerged Beledweyne since the beginning of May, affecting more than 200,000 residents. According to the Somalia Water and Land Information Management (SWALIM) unit of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately 79% of the town is currently underwater.
