Somali National Army (SNA) backed by international partners on Wednesday killed 30 al-Shabab militants in a joint offensive operation at several areas near El-Garas town in Galgaduud region, central Somalia, officials said.
The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism said in a statement that the operations targeted al-Shabab's hideout areas where the fighters were regrouping and destroyed explosives and military consignments that were being assembled.
"The joint forces have gained military success during operations and recovered several areas under al-Shabab in Galmudug State. The Somali government thanks the courageous people for supporting the army to root out the enemy," the ministry said.
The latest operations come as the fighting between the Somali National Army and the group fighters intensified on several fronts mainly in south-central Somalia.
On Tuesday, the government troops killed more than 120 al-Shabab militants after conducting a two-day operation in Galmudug State.
The government forces have sustained their attacks against al-Shabab since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an all-out war against the militants in 2022.
