Beledweyne (HOL) - At least six people were killed and more than four others wounded in a suicide car bombing in the Bulaburde district in the Hiiraan region, just days after a deadly al Shabab attack killed over 30 people and in Beledweyne, the region's capital.
According to residents, the car loaded with explosives detonated while security forces pursued it. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle had come from the district's west side.
On Saturday, a truck loaded with explosives targeted a security checkpoint in Beledweyne, killing over 30 people and wounding 50 others.
The attack in Bulaburde district comes only hours after the military successfully thwarted two attempted car bombings on the outskirts of Dhusamareb, a central town in Somalia.
Dhusamareb is the administrative capital of the central state of Galmudug, which is currently hosting Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who relocated from the capital, Mogadishu to mobilize the local forces and boost the morale of the armed forces in the frontline state.Al Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The terror group al-Shabaab has doubled its attack since Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahamud, elected for a second term last year, declared an "all-out war" on al-Shabaab. The terrorist group since then has lost large swaths of territory in central regions, including the coastal town of Haradhere, which had been under the militants' control for over a decade.
