Baidoa (HOL) - The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) displayed ten young men who defected from the al-Shabab group in Baidoa, the administrative capital of the Southwest State, on Monday.
The defectors told local media that they had belonged to the group's branch responsible for carrying out attacks. They added that they left the group due to internal conflicts among its members, describing the group as unable to withstand such conflicts.
The defectors also urged other young men who were still with the al-Shabab group to come forward and surrender themselves to the government.
Somali army forces, supported by the local clan militia forces and international partners, are expected to restart the military operations in the South West, Jubbaland, Hirshabelle and Galmudug States of Somalia.
Recently, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by the Galmudug leader, federal lawmakers, and the Minister of Defense, visited Harardhere town in the Mudug region and El-dher district in the Galgadud region, both located in the Galmudug regional state.
Government officials stated that the delegation's visits to these two strategic areas were part of the intensifying military operations in central Somalia.
