Somali Council of Ministers approves Somalia-China economic cooperation agreement

    Mogadishu (HOL) — The Somali Council of Ministers approved a recent agreement on economic cooperation and development between Somalia and China during its weekly meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday.

    The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, also saw the approval of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' proposal to appoint Abdirahman Sayid Ahmed as the new Deputy Director of the Agency for Identification and Public Registration.

    Several key reports were presented during the session, including updates on national security, issuing driving licenses and implementing a newly passed sales tax resolution.

    Ministers responsible for the security sector briefed the council on the latest developments in the country's general security situation and the ongoing war against the al-Shabab group.

    In recent weeks, al-Shabab has intensified its attacks in Mogadishu and its outskirts, with the latest assaults targeting Liido Beach and a major market in Elasha Biyaha, on the outskirts of the capital.
