Five Al-Shabaab members, identified as Mohamed Abdullahi Abukar, Osman Mohamed Mursal, Mohamed Ibrahim Ali, Ilyas Mohamed Hassan, and Ugas Adan Mohamed Gedi, moments before their execution by firing squad in Kismayo, Somalia, as ordered by the Jubbaland Military Court on Wednesday morning.
Kismayo (HOL) — Five men affiliated with the militant group Al-Shabaab were executed by the Jubbaland Military Court on Tuesday morning in a public square in Kismayo.
The men, identified as Mohamed Abdullahi Abukar, Osman Mohamed Mursal, Mohamed Ibrahim Ali, Ilyas Mohamed Hassan, and Ugas Adan Mohamed Gedi, were found guilty of various murders. Ugas Adan Mohamed Gedi, a notable elder in the Jubbaland region, was also convicted of collaborating with Al-Shabaab.
Witnesses to the executions included military officials and local residents. Jubbaland Military Court Prosecutor Lt. Col. Ismail Abdi Ali addressed the media at the scene, warning that anyone committing murder would face the same consequences.
The Jubbaland Military Court has previously conducted multiple executions of Al-Shabaab members. Several other Al-Shabaab affiliates remain incarcerated in Kismayo, awaiting their sentences.
