Hargeisa (HOL) — Somaliland MP Mohamed Abiib has dismissed charges brought against him by the Attorney General of Somaliland, who requested his removal from the House of Representatives, calling them baseless accusations. Abiib claims President Bihi's administration is targeting anyone who criticizes its failures following its unsuccessful attempts to fulfill its responsibilities.
Speaking to the media in Hargeisa, Abiib said, "When this country is not being served, they turn against anyone who criticizes the hostile practices of our leaders. They have done it before, and we must defend our freedom and rights."
Abiib asserted that the charges were unfounded and emphasized that he would never trade Somaliland for another place. He added that if he were betraying his land, he would have first accepted the bribes offered to him.
The MP also stated he would resign if the people of Awdal expressed dissatisfaction with his representation. "But I won't be removed based on a fabricated story concocted by failing politicians and young tribalists," he declared.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prof. Faratoon, is particularly accused of being behind the charges against Abiib following several confrontations during parliamentary sessions. Abiib has previously been seen telling the Speaker to "Shut up" and using other similar phrases.
