Mogadishu (HOL) — The National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) is on the verge of completing a cutting-edge emergency assistance facility, including a trauma center, in Mogadishu; the centre is designed to provide immediate aid to those in urgent need of medical attention. Commissioner Mohamud Moalim Abdulle recently visited the construction site, emphasizing the center's vital role in saving lives during emergencies.
Located within the main hospital in Madina, the center's strategic placement ensures rapid access to medical facilities. The project, partly funded by contributions from the Somali community, showcases a collective effort to enhance disaster response capabilities.
Construction is in its final stages, and the center is expected to become operational soon. SoDMA and Madina Hospital management are coordinating closely to ensure seamless operations during emergencies.
Commissioner Abdulle praised Dr. Mohamed Abdirahman and the hospital staff's dedication, presenting them with a certificate of honour.
SoDMA believes the new center will revolutionize Mogadishu's emergency assistance system by saving lives, delivering critical care, and marking a major leap forward in the city's disaster management infrastructure.
The construction of the emergency assistance center comes as part of SoDMA's broader strategy to improve disaster management in Somalia. Established in 2011 by the Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government in response to the 2010-11 Somali famine, SoDMA was formally authorized in 2016 under the Federal Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. In 2022, the ministry was dissolved, and SoDMA assumed its roles and responsibilities, solidifying its position as the primary disaster management entity in the country.
