Mogadishu (HOL) — The European Union inaugurated new facilities at the General Dhagabadan Training Center (GDTC) on July 16. The EU-funded new facilities include modern shooting ranges and multi-purpose tracks, critical for comprehensive military training for the Somali National Army (SNA).

The ceremony was attended by Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama, EU Ambassador Karin Johansson, EUTM Force Commander General Giuseppe Zizzari, and a delegation from Brussels. The inauguration underscores the EU's ongoing commitment to strengthening Somalia's security sector through the European Peace Facility (EPF), which has allocated 110 million euros to support the SNA.

"It is crucial to have a training facility in this country. The General Dhagabadan military training facility is the most important facility for training SNA personnel. We are pleased that the EU has played a pivotal role in supporting Somalia," Deputy Prime Minister Jama said during the event.

EU Ambassador Johansson reaffirmed the EU's dedication, stating, "The EU is, and remains, committed to assisting the Federal Government on this road ahead."

General Zizzari, EUTM Mission Force Commander, added, "The facility symbolizes our collective commitment to advancing training and cooperation."

The Deputy Prime Minister inaugurated the shooting ranges, multi-purpose track, and equipment, while the delegation and Somali officials toured the training areas and classrooms. They observed training routines and engaged with Somali soldiers, reinforcing the EU's support for Somalia's security.

The EU has played a major role in supporting Somalia's security sector. The Foreign Policy Instrument (FPI) and EPF are components of the EU's strategy in the Horn of Africa, supporting missions like EUCAP-Somalia and EUTM-Somalia.
