Dubai (HOL) - Somali Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Hussein Halane, presented his credentials to the Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saif Abdulla Alshamisi, in Dubai on Thursday.
The UAE official wished the new ambassador success in his duties and in enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the UAE and Somalia.
Ambassador Halane expressed his pleasure in representing his country in the United Arab Emirates, a nation that enjoys a prestigious regional and international position under the visionary leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
However, the presentation of credentials came just hours after Flydubai Airlines announced the suspension of its operations to and from Mogadishu, effective June 11, 2024, according to a message sent to its partners.
The airline did not specify the reasons behind the suspension, but reports suggest it is due to security concerns. Flydubai, based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, began its direct flights to Mogadishu on March 9, 2023, marking the first direct flight between Somalia and the UAE.
