Somali politician recalls the strong imprint left by Italy
The Ambassador of Italy in Mogadishu Pier Mario Daccò Coppi was received today by the Minister of Transport of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mrs. Fardowsa Osman Egal.
The minister recalled the strong imprint left by the presence of Italy in the past decades, visible both in the infrastructural landscape and in the vehicle fleet itself, which still today has a large number of Italian vehicles circulating on Somali roads.
Recalling the times when Somali civil aviation was operated by Alitalia, the minister then acknowledged the invaluable aid of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) for the rehabilitation of the airport in Garowe - capital of Puntland - and the commitment of the Leonardo company in the supply and maintenance of airport control equipment.Fardowsa also hoped for possible cooperation in other areas of expertise, such as the digitisation of driving licences and vehicle registers as well as the modernisation of airport facilities (especially from a security perspective). Finally, he expressed the wish to pay a visit to Italy to explore possible forms of bilateral cooperation with his counterpart.
