Somali police capture fugitive killer at Mogadishu airport

Tuesday June 25, 2024

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali police have apprehended a fugitive murderer at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. The suspect, Mohamed Omar Isse, is accused of killing Mohamed Ahmed Farah in the Nugal region on May 17, 2023.

Isse had fled to Kenya following the murder and had been living under the alias Abduqadir Omar Ali to evade capture. The Somali Police, in coordination with Interpol, shared his information, leading to his identification and eventual arrest.

A statement from the Somali Police detailed that Isse used a false identity to obtain travel documents from the Somali Embassy in Kenya on June 21, 2024. He attempted to return to Somalia when apprehended at the airport.

The Puntland Regional Court of Nugal had requested Isse’s extradition, and he is expected to be handed over to their jurisdiction soon.

The incident demonstrates the ongoing cooperation between Interpol and the Somali Police in tracking and capturing fugitives.
