Mogadishu (HOL) - The militant group Al-Shabaab has disclosed the identity of the perpetrator behind the suicide attack that targeted the SYL Hotel in Mogadishu last Friday night, adjacent to Somalia's presidential palace.

According to Al-Shabaab's media outlets, the assailant is 20-year-old Hassan Mohamed Mohamud, originating from Kismayo, the administrative center of the Lower Jubba region.

The group's statements further reveal that Mohamud belonged to the Hawiye clan. The attack ensued after Al-Shabaab militants forcibly entered the hotel, engaging in extended combat within its confines.

Police spokesperson Kasim Roble said Friday that three soldiers were killed and 27 people injured in the Thursday night attack on the SYL Hotel in Mogadishu.

The Al Qaeda-linked terror outfit did not disclose the identities of the other five attackers.

The incident at the SYL Hotel led to numerous casualties, affecting members of parliament, government officials, and ordinary civilians.

Following the attack, eighteen critically injured individuals, among them government personnel and civilians, were transported to Turkey for medical treatment, as local medical services were deemed insufficient.
