Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud
held separate meetings with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Kenyan
President William Ruto on the sidelines of the East African Community (EAC)
Summit in Arusha.
The meetings emphasized advancing regional integration,
enhancing trade and economic ties, and bolstering security cooperation to tackle
shared challenges in the Horn of Africa.
President Mohamud reaffirmed Presidents Museveni and Ruto
for their leadership and commitment to regional progress, reiterating Somalia's
readiness to contribute to the EAC's shared objectives.
Both Museveni and Ruto emphasized the importance of a
seamless transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia
(ATMIS) to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia
(AUSSOM), set to begin in January 2025, as a critical step in ensuring
long-term security and stability in Somalia.
