Somalia parliament passes agricultural bills on chemical regulation and research

    Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia's Lower House of Somalia's Parliament unanimously approved two agricultural bills to regulate the use of agricultural chemicals and establish Somali Agricultural Research and Inspection Services (SARIS). 

    All 151 members present voted in favour of the legislation during the 30th session of the fifth term, with no abstentions or objections.

    MP Mukhtar Mohamed Guled, Chair of the Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Livestock, and Marine Resources, presented the bills for a third reading.

    Speaker Sheikh Aadan Mohamed Nur, who chaired the session alongside Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, announced the results and confirmed the bills would now proceed to the Upper House for review.

    Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareeye and Chairman Guled praised the parliament's swift action.

    Sheikh Aadan Madoobe concluded the session by thanking MPs for their dedication, noting that the fifth term will conclude in one month.
