Toronto – Six people were reportedly killed this week in an attack in a Mosque in the Somali region of Ethiopia.
BBC Amharic cited residents and elders to report that the incident happened on Tuesday in Wardare town, Dollo Zone, in a Mosque known in the area as Kujir. Alki Mohammed Mohamud, one of the witnesses, said the victims were youths.
The victims are theology students and were killed while they were preparing for Salat Prayer, according to the source. “The killings of the six youths is very shocking,” Alki added. The incident has reportedly shocked the entire community in the town. Government security forces were deployed to the area after the incident.
The attack is said to be related to ethnic-based conflict in the area. It is cited that there had been a similar ethnic based violence last year between ethnic groups living in the area.
According to BBC Amharic, the attackers came in a smaller vehicle to the Mosque and carried out the attack.
The victims were laid to rest in Wardare town on Wednesday.
