Hargeisa (HOL) — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has firmly rejected claims that his government has engaged in discussions with the United States regarding the resettlement of Palestinian refugees, emphasizing that no official request has been made.

In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Irro denied reports that Somaliland is being considered as a relocation site for displaced Palestinians from Gaza, following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about resettling refugees in other countries.

"Somaliland values its partnership with the United States in economic, military, and diplomatic spheres, but we have not been approached about this issue. Any matter of this magnitude requires comprehensive dialogue," Irro stated.

He reaffirmed Somaliland's unwavering support for Palestinian rights and called for a diplomatic resolution that aligns with a broader Arab consensus. He added that Somaliland maintains close ties with several Arab nations and is committed to playing a constructive role in regional affairs.

Irro's comments come amid growing speculation following recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested relocating Palestinians from Gaza to other countries. Israeli media outlets have since reported that Somaliland and Puntland were among the possible resettlement destinations, though no official confirmation has been issued by either Washington or Hargeisa.

The remarks from Somaliland's leader come at a critical time as the region navigates complex geopolitical dynamics. Irro, who recently attended the World Governments Summit in Dubai, reaffirmed his administration's focus on economic development, strengthening diplomatic ties, and maintaining Somaliland's political stability in an increasingly volatile Horn of Africa.
