The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday condemned the stance of the Kenyan government and its support for the parallel government that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia intends to declare. The ministry stressed that Sudan would take all necessary measures to respond to this “hostile and irresponsible” action.
Describing Kenya’s endorsement of the parallel government as a “dangerous precedent”, the ministry added that it is also a violation of the UN Charter and the founding principles of the African Union. It cautioned that such an action poses a significant threat to regional peace and security.
The official Sudanese statement noted further that the Kenya Charter seeks to divide Sudan by granting the right to self-determination to what it called “Sudanese peoples and regions.”
It pointed out that participants in RSF meetings in Kenya had chanted slogans calling on the militia to invade specific Sudanese cities and areas to continue ethnic cleansing and genocide, similar to what was carried out in Al-Geneina and Ardmeta, villages in Al-Jazira and Sennar, and Zamzam camp.
The Sudanese ministry statement also emphasised that the signed Kenya Charter allows the RSF to acquire weapons that are forbidden for non-governmental armed groups to possess.
“The entire event was aimed at creating a false facade for the militia to directly obtain weapons, while relieving regional sponsors of some embarrassment, whose role would be then limited to funding,” said the ministry in Khartoum. “This, in turn, means an expansion of the war and prolonging its duration, even though the armed forces and supporting troops are close to eliminating the militia threat.”
In conclusion, the Sudanese government warned that, “Kenya’s insistence on this dangerous course of action reflects its disregard for international law, regional peace and security, and obligations to prevent genocide, ensure accountability and combat terrorism.”
