Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud dismissed his advisor on inter-regional relations, Mohamed Hassan Ibrahim Qoone, on Sunday, according to a decree from the President’s office.
The decree stated that officials appointed to high positions are expected to contribute to national unity and development by performing their duties efficiently, honestly, and responsibly.
President Mohamud thanked Qoone for his service and wished him success in the future.
Although the decree did not specify the reason for Qoone’s removal, it came a week after he publicly criticized two top officials in Hirshabelle for their slow response to Al-Shabaab threats in the region.
Qoone had recently emphasized the need for unity in the fight against Al-Shabaab, describing Somalia as being in a critical phase of its war against the militant group. He also expressed disappointment over the political situation in the Gedo region, accusing the government of failing to address it effectively.
