Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Police Force commander General Abdi Hassan Hijar renamed the headquarters of Somalia's special police forces unit, Harmacad (Cheetah), into Brigadier General Farhan Mohamud Adan Qorole, who was killed in a landmine explosion in the Middle Shabelle region on Friday.
The police commander said in a statement that the late Farhan Qaroole was honoured at the headquarters to remember his bravery and the legacy he left behind.
"The headquarters was officially named after the late Brigadier General Farhan Mohamud Adan Qorole," said the Police commander.
The explosion killed the commander, his two bodyguards, and the Somali state media's police correspondent on Friday morning near Bal'ad district, 35km north of Mogadishu.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo honoured the fallen Mogadishu's Police Commissioner, Farhan Mohamoud Adan' Qarole'.
"Brigadier General Farhan Mohamud Adan and other martyred soldiers have sacrificed their time and lives to help the Somali people live in peace and put in a lot of effort to eradicate the terrorists," said President Hassan Sheikh.
"We are never disappointed that we lost a legend and two who were willing to die for their country," Prime Minister Hamza added, "we draw our courage from them as they are on the right path."
Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo also extended his condolences over the killing of the commander and his bodyguards.
"I have learnt with sadness the tragic loss of our son, General Farhan Qarole, A hero who bravely remained on the front line in the war against Alshabaab. He sacrificed his life to save many lives & I ask my fellow citizens to pray for him & his family at this time of grief," he said.
